We are pleased to announce that the Fall 2016 Book Fair, Vote for Books, was a success!
We would like to thank our dedicated volunteers who helped in any way. There are many tasks that need to be done well in order to ensure success. Our volunteers assist with inventory, set-up, decoration, class visits, restocking, teacher wish lists and breakdown. We would especially like to recognize Lisa Bare, Wendy Duncan and Lizzie Young.
Our coin drive, which was only held for two days this year, resulted in $1372.03. Our top four classes, each contributing over one hundred dollars, were 3R (Mrs. Karcz), 1B (Mrs. Wright), 5R (Mrs. Harmon) and 6W (Mrs. Bolka). Each of these four classrooms received a thoughtfully selected book from Mrs. Heather Brown.
Our student raffle baskets were won by Maddie G. in 2W (Basket 1) and Kaitlin E. in 2W (Basket 2). Raffle ticket sales totaled $340.00. Our candy guessing contest, won by Taylor E. in KO, was free to SJS students. Taylor received a Pete the Cat doll, a book of her choice from the Book Fair, and the candy.
Our sales, from Wednesday, October 19 through Monday, October 24, totaled $19,111.19. We will receive 25% of these sales as profit from our vendor, Bookworm Central. According to our invoice, our proceeds total $4866.80.
Our school library was able to purchase many new exciting books and STREAM games from the Book Fair. These new resources are only made possible through the fundraising we complete through the coin drive and raffle baskets. This year, Mrs. Heather Brown purchased 119 new books and 28 new STREAM games. In addition to this, our library received five books as direct gifts from parents.
This year, we were happy to participate in the book collection for the Backpack Drive. We had 30 new books donated to this program, which will help provide a wonderful Christmas gift for children who receive backpack meals in the month of December. In addition, we anticipate that some of our SJS parents will be donating like new books to this program in the near future. Most importantly, we were able to bring attention to the plight faced by families right in this community.
It was also nice for our parents, who shopped with us, to see the new Smart Board in the library.
Thank you again and we are already looking forward to a successful year in 2017.
