All volunteers in the Diocese of Arlington who have substantial contact with youth under the age of 18 must complete the Child Protection Program. All employees in the Diocese of Arlington must also complete this program even if the employee will not have substantial contact with the youth.
Substantial contact is defined as activities where the adult is in contact with youth on a regular and ongoing basis in which the duration and scope in both time and exposure to children is neither trivial nor limited and may occur on a routine and/or ongoing basis.
The Child Protection Program consist of 2 parts. Part one is an online background check. Please go to arlingtondiocese.org and choose Protecting our Children in the top of the home page. Scroll to the box that says background checks and follow the prompts. Once the four tabs of information are completed, choose submit and finish. You will be sent an email from Docusign to sign the documents. Once signed, they will be sent to the Child Protection Liaison at St. Joseph Catholic Church and School to review. If all complete and correct, the background check will be accepted.
Part two is attendance at a Virtus Seminar. Your background application must be accepted first to receive instructions as to how to register for a Virtus Seminar.
If you have any questions please contact Beth Covert, Child Protection Liaison at St. Joseph Church and School at (703)880-4357 or [email protected].
