This Fall, you can participate in Track & Field, Cross Country, or both. Each sport is open to 3rd through 8th grade students in St Joseph school, CCD, or home school. Come to a practice to try it out before signing up, and invite others to come.
Fall Track & Field Weekly practices at Herndon Middle School (Locust St) leading up to the meet
Starting last weekend of August (August 27-28), Saturdays & Sundays 4 – 5:15 pm
Try to attend one practice per week, either day
Typical track practice: warm-ups / technique, running drills, field events, relay, or game Diocese-wide meet (15-20 parishes) Columbus Day weekend (October 8-9), at O’Connell HS
7 th/ 8th graders Saturday AM (~ 8 to ~ noon)
5 th/ 6th graders Saturday PM (~ noon to ~ 5 pm) 3 rd/ 4th graders Sunday PM (~ 1:30 to ~ 5 pm) Meet events include running 55m to 1600 m, field events, and relays Parent help is needed for the meet
Fall Cross Country You can do cross country in addition to track. Some only do cross country and many only do track
Mid-week W&OD runs starting early September
Three meets available. Meet distances are 2 km to 4 km based on grade level:
Developmental meet, Sunday October 2, Fort Hunt Park Alexandria
Developmental meet, Sunday October 23, Laurel Hill Park Lorton
Championship meet, Sunday November 6, Burke Lake Park Fairfax
Fees Track season fees are $30 runner / $50 family (checks payable to “St Joseph Church”) Cross country fees are $5/meet
A single registration / medical form covers both sports (cross country / track)
$10 t-shirt needed for meets
New New New! First Annual SJS 5K Race / 1 Mile Fun Run, Saturday October 1, 8 am. This is a PTO event, but all track / cross country runners and families are encouraged to attend.
